Visit to the ancient adobe ruins of Pachacamac, located about 25 miles SE of Lima. The pre-Inca temple dating from AD 100 was a place of pilgrimage, once covering 10 km2 (4 sq miles). Built centuries before the Incas, Pachacamac is noted for its great pyramidal temples and for the remains of frescoes adorning its adobe walls. Following the expansion of the Inca Empire, Pachacamac became an important Inca administrative center, while maintaining its status as a religious shrine. The site also includes an on-site museum with an interesting collection of pre-Hispanic relics. Among the many fascinating features of Pachacamac are the burial sites found within the complex. These sites, often located within or near the ruins of temples and ceremonial centers, reveal a great deal about the religious practices and societal structure of the ancient cultures that once inhabited the area and highlight the spiritual significance of Pachacamac, which was considered a major pilgrimage site dedicated to the god Pachacamac, a creator deity worshiped by various Andean civilizations.

Your guide will introduce you to the city's architectural heritage before heading to Casa Aliaga, the oldest colonial house in Latin America, which is owned by the Aliaga family and their descendants. Wu-style Tai Chi Chuan is a martial art founded by Wu Chian Chuan in the late 1800s. Like all types of Tai Chi Chuan, Wu-style focuses not on external power, but on internal strength, generated from calm, balance, and mindfulness. Valerie Boss has a black belt in Wu style and has studied at the Lost Track Kungfu and Tai Chi School in Atlanta for 30 years. She will lead participants in typical taichi warm up and breathing exercises, and introduce them to a few of the postures characteristic of Wu style. The district of Barranco may be the smallest of Lima’s 43 neighborhoods, but it is certainly one of its most prominent, and most romanticized. Barranco has long been the epicenter of Lima’s cultural elite, attracting artists; writers; designers and photographers for many generations, with its bohemian heyday coming during the 1960s and 70s. The area is well-known, among other things, for its selection of fantastic local eateries, ice cream vendors such as the much-loved Crem dela Crem ice cream shop, and cozy coffee houses like the legendary Juanito’s bar, or modern Felicia & Domingo cafe. Visit some of the charming boutiques, awash with traditional handmade garments and jewelry, ornaments and pottery from all over Peru, before heading to the 'Bridge of Sighs', which connects Barranco’s two main parks and offers fantastic views of the district and nearby 19th century chapel. The beauty of this walk is as much in the absorbing of cultural heritage, style and artistic flair, as it is the individually significant sites themselves.
